The deville was originally a trim level and later a separate model produced by cadillac. The first car to bear the name was the 1949 coupe de ville and the last model to be formally known as a deville was the 2005 deville. 1977 was cadillac's 75th anniversary and marked the first year of the 5th generation deville as well as the introduction of the downsized deville coupes and sedans. The 190hp 500ci v8 was replaced in 1977 by an 180hp 425ci v8 which reduced the weight, increased fuel economy and reduced emissions. In addition to a redesigned grille and hood ornament, 1978 saw slim, vertical tail lamps inset into chrome bumper end caps with built-in side marker lamps. This particular example was optioned with the popular cabriolet option which featured a rear half padded vinyl roof covering and opera lamps. It is a 3 owner car with 55,830 original miles. The current owner purchased it from a friend in 2007 that bought it from the 2nd owner in 1994. The interior is completely original and in need of a little tlc. Mechanically and electrically everything is working as it should and the air even blows ice cold.
